On Friday evening (28th of July 2017) representatives from both Cefn Druids and our football club Cefn Albion, two local football clubs from the village of Cefn Mawr visited local residential home Plas Bod Llwyd to hand over a cheque for the sum of £540. Pictured on the right is John Hughes (Cefn Druids chairman), Tracey Roberts (Carer at the home), Ennis Wood (Resident at the home), Judith Richards (Manger at the home) and Haydn Evans (Chairman of Cefn Albion)
As many people will already know we have recently formed a closer working partnership with our Welsh Premier League neighbours in a bid to grow stronger links between two local clubs and help to unite a community even more than what it already is. Since the announcement, alongside the Druids we worked hard to place a lot more emphasis on this preseason’s scheduled friendly in order to raise money for a chosen local cause, The Plas Bod Llwyd Residential home. The preseason friendly took place on Wednesday 26th July 2017 at the Rock and there was a fantastic response with many coming along to support the game which saw Cefn Druids run out 4-0 winners on the night. The game was competitive but played in excellent spirit and there was a great atmosphere amongst supporters around the ground.
We would like to thank all the supporters who gave up their time to attend the game and dig deep to gain entrance, all proceeds were put towards the cause. We would also like to thank all the players, management and committee members from both clubs for contributing to participate in the fixture, an excellent response from both changing rooms which bumped up the final total.
As John Hughes (chairman of Druids) and Haydn Evans (chairman of Albion) greeted the elderly residents at Plas Bod Llywd they were met by cheers and applause which goes to show exactly what the money we all raised means to everyone connected to the home. Judith Richards, manager at the residential home gave a massive thank you on behalf of all the residents at Plas Bod Llwyd for the kind donation and informed us that the money would be put towards the comfort fund so that the residents can enjoy additional trips out and activities, entertainment and lunch time treats such as the popular fish and chips choice.

Observing the smiles on so many faces at the home when we visited made all the hard work behind the scenes defiantly worth it. It’s still early days but we feel that the working relationship between the Albion and Druids is going incredibly well and long may it continue. The success of Wednesday’s event are early signs that the two clubs can continue to join forces for more fundraisers that will see more local causes benefit.
Thank you to every single person who played their part on Wednesday.
