Cefn Albion Enter U19 Cup Competition

Cefn Albion Football club are delighted to announce that due to the amount of young players we have signed up we will enter an u19 team into the youth cup competition for the first time in the clubs very short history.

Midway through last season the football clubs committee made the decision to restructure our reserve team in order to help provide a better opportunity for younger players making the transition from youth football into men’s. Too often we were seeing young local lads leaving the village to get a game of football so we felt it was time to do something about it and attempt to change this trend. Since the decision was made we have had an excellent response and we have seen a rise in younger players aged 16-21 coming into the football club and enjoying being part of what we are trying to do.

This preseason has been no different and we have seen the arrival of more younger players which is great news for the club and for the village of Cefn. The oldest player currently signed for our reserves is just 23 years old which is brilliant to see and epitomises what we are trying to achieve and the direction we want to move forward. What’s also great is that our first team has also really benefited by the influx of younger players and a pleasing stat is how many have been given the opportunity to play in the third tier of Welsh football. The average age of the expected first team squad is just 24 years old which is great news for the forthcoming season and the future of the football club.

We are still eager to encourage more young players to come along and get involved with the football club so if you know someone looking for a club please let them know. We want to assure you that you will be given the opportunity to play football which is our main priority. At the moment we are training 18:30 every Tuesday and Thursday on Ty Mawr field. This may change depending on preseason friendly match dates and when the season begins so please keep track using our social media platforms.
