The much talked about Brickfield Rangers were todays visitors to the Muga and the first team were hoping to build on some recent good performances with a result to match. The visitors settled in to the game well and played some tidy stuff early on with their wingers and diagonal ball seemingly being their main game plan. They were presented with a golden opportunity when former player Danny Holland latched on to a diagonal an if truth be told should of given his team the lead but instead shot agonisingly wide of Aldridge’s goal. The lads were working hard for each other and soon cottoned on to what the visitors were trying to do and organised to deal with it. As the half went on Cefn started to come into it more and it was beginning to become a more even affair. Following some good link up play between Oli Davies and Alex Williams down the right it was Williams who nearly put Albion one up when he sent a strike form 20 yards out which was excellently tipped over by the opposing goal keeper.
However, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock but it has to be said it was in controversial circumstances. Cefn’s number one was adamant that the ball never crossed the line which was awarded by the linesman not the referee. Despite the protests from the Cefn Albion players, management and supporters the goal was given and the lads were 1-0 at HT.
In the second half you could see that the home team come out with their tails up and to be fair although Brickie always posed a threat on the break we controlled large parts of the half. After a flurry of corners it was man of the match Sean Jones who went close to an equaliser but his header from a Dion Gibbins found the crossbar and went over. More opportunities passed and 16 year old Kien Morris who started up top was causing the brickfield backline problems with his pace. The equalising goal eventually come when the ball fell to the prolific Oli Davies who made no mistake scoring from close range. After a very good 20 minutes of play from Cefn it was Brickfield who were to get the winner from a good heading goal from a set piece. You could argue that it was against the run of play but as previously mentioned they always posed a threat in the final third.
The lads pushed hard for a second equaliser but could not find the break through. The experienced goal keeper in the net for the visitors was using every opportunity to waste precious minutes to deny Albion any chance to get their goal.
You can’t fault the effort from the boys during today’s game against a very good and organised Brickfield side, it’s only a matter of time before results begin to match performances and we start to move up the table.
