Following last weekends first first three points of the new season we were looking to build on a good win and performance against Brymbo at home on the Muga. Although we lost Lee Phelan who has returned back to Lex the team was strengthened considerably by the return of Nic Jones and twin brothers Nathan and Alex Williams. With only our captain Paul Griffiths the noticeable absentee today was possibly the first week that the managers had a near full squad to choose from. Finally a headache selection!
Prior to kick off both teams, officials and supporters observed a minutes silence to mark our respects to local lad Lee Hughes who tragically lost his life this week in a motorcycle accident. Lee was well known in the community of Cefn Mawr and was a friend to many of the lads who represent our football club. Our thoughts are with all Lee’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
The game kicked off and the opening exchanges were fairly even with very little between the two sides. With not much goal mouth action the away team took the lead on the half hour mark when the ball was bundled in from close range. 1-0 HT.
The second half was very similar to the first with most of the play happening in the middle of the park. The Albion huffed and puffed to get and equaliser but everything they attempted was more than matched by a very well organised Brymbo back four. Despite a change in formation and new signing Craig Jones being introduced up to top we were still unable to breakdown the resilient steel men. With 20 minutes remaining the visitors added a second goal which was scored from 25 yards out, this was enough to settle the game and is how the game ended. FT 0-2
We would like to thank those who came to the game to support the team, as always a fantastic effort.
