Today the lads were in league action and it was the much anticipated visit to ‘The Dunks’, the home of table topping Queens Park. Pre-match you could sense amongst the team that they were looking to put in a big performance to atone for the dreadful loss that they encountered at the Muga just over six weeks ago.

In the days leading up to this fixture we received some encouraging news that leading goal scorer Oliver Davies was able to get a shift change in work and that club captain Paul Griffiths declared himself available after over 10 weeks on the side line with ankle ligament damage.

A big following form the Cefn added to the excellent home crowd and as expected there were many in attendance for today’s clash. The lads started the game confidently and took the game to the hosts but if truth be told for large periods of the first half the two teams cancelled each other out. The best chance for Albion fell to full back Jamie Foulkes who failed to capitalise form close range following a spill form the home keeper. Cefn were set up well and were organised throughout the team and this limited the park to few chances in front of goal apart from the odd long range efforts. You could see that frustration was creeping in amongst the Queens Park players and support. However, they did hit the post after some good work down the left and ball in was met by the winger. 0-0 HT

The early exchanges of the second half were quite similar to the first half where both teams cancelled each other out. However, it was the Albion who was to make the break through when returning skipper Paul Griffiths heading in at the back post from a set piece to put the Cefn 1-0 to the good. The goal seemed to kick start Queens Park and they started to ask a lot more questions of the Albion. It wasn’t long after we went ahead that the home side drew level when a free kick from close range was deflected past the diving Aldridge who could do nothing about it. The equaliser gave the home team confidence and they soon found themselves 2-1 up when an excellent 30 yard strike gave Nath in the goal no chance. The Park went from strength to strength and they soon found the goal that would settle the tie to make it 3-1. In the last twenty minutes of play Nathan Aldridge was called upon more than once and if it wasn’t for a few excellent saves from the number one it could have been a heavier shoreline. FT 3-1

Today was a good effort from the lads who frustrated the current league leaders for large parts of the game. There were many positives to take from the game and good to see players coming back from injury which of course will only make us stronger.

One final mention is to the fantastic supporters who turned out in there droves to get behind the lads. You never fail to disappoint and we can’t thank you enough for turning up on a cold November afternoon to support the team.
