We have now collected the remaining sponsor forms and along with some of the clubs committee members our chairman Haydn Evans has counted and verified the total amount that was raised from the annual Cefn Albion Football club bike ride that took place on Sunday 27th August. We are delighted to announce that the final total raised was a fantastic £1200 which our club secretary Dean Morris kindly delivered to this year’s chosen charity which was Wrexham Maelor Hospital’s shooting star cancer unit.
There are many people connected to our football club who have unfortunately felt the full effects of Cancer and the heartache it can cause to their lives. Last December, who despite an extremely brave fight we lost our very own Pauline Griffiths to this cruel disease. Pauline was a popular and well respected figure in and around our football club and she also had many relations including vice chairman Alan Davies and club captain Paul Griffiths who represent us both on and off the field. I’m sure that over the years we have all experienced or know someone who has experienced a time where they have utilised the fantastic services that the shooting star unit at the Maelor offers so it was a fitting charity and one we are extremely delighted to have raised such an excellent amount for.
Once again a big shout out to Nick Jones who was responsible for organising this year’s event, printing sponsor forms and advertising through posters, social media and the general word of mouth. The village of Cefn Mawr is a tight-knit community and on the day of the bike ride a record breaking 30+ riders which included current players, management and supporters turned up in fancy dress to take on the 20 mile all-round cycle from the Cefn Mawr community Social Club (the legion) in Cefn Mawr up to the Britannia Inn just past Llangollen. During the route we stopped in the Queens Hotel in Cefn Mawr before making our way to the Bridge End in Llangollen via the canal. Whilst in Llangollen we also visited the Bull and the Wynnstay before setting off to the chain bridge hotel and then the Brit. On the way home we stopped in the Abbey Grange hotel, the Sun Trevor and the Telford in Trevor before finishing back at the social club.
It was an enjoyable day which brought smiles to faces and created some great memories for all involved. We would like to thank all the people who bought fancy dress outfits and participated in the ride, the people who kindly sponsored those involved and the people and pubs (CMCSC, Queens, Bridge end Bull, Wynnstay, the Chain bridge, Britannia, Abbey Grange, Sun Trevor & the Telford) on route who dug deep and donated via our collection boxes.
We shall look forward to next year’s charity event and we will be visiting all the pubs who kindly donated this year. A big Thank you to Nicky Jones and to everyone who made this year’s charity fancy dress ride a success! Roll on next year!!
