on Sunday the 19th of December players, management, and supporters connected to Cefn Albion football club got together for the annual Christmas get-together to raise some more money for a worthy local cause. This year's causes were 12-year-old local girl Ella Evans who recently lost her mother and local lad Emyr Huges who is recovering from his fourth neuro surgery which had complications.
We are absolutely delighted to announce that we raised a total of £1,076 in just one day which has been split down the middle and donated to Ella and Em.
Ella Evans
12-year-old Ella Evans who recently lost her mother, well renowned local girl Katie Evans.
Katie, who is the Niece of our very own Haydn Evans tragically passed away on the 19th of October 2021 leaving behind her 12 year old daughter Ella who also lost her father at a very young age too. Katie’s sudden passing left the whole community of Cefn Mawr in shock so it was no surprise to see that a Facebook fund page, organised by Katie’s best friend Gemma Jones, accumulated almost £4,000 in a very short period of time. All proceeds from the Fund were handed to Katie’s mum Denise and Ella to help them both through an extremely difficult time. Local people still continue to donate to an amazing cause which goes to show the community spirit we have in Cefn Mawr!
With Christmas around the corner, we found out that little Ella had asked her remaining family for a new iPhone so we wanted to do everything we can to raise enough money to ensure that she wakes up to the newest model on Christmas morning! With everyone's help, we have made that wish come true and Ella will be getting her new iPhone!
Emyr Huges
Living amongst a very tight-knit community many will know Emyr and the challenging journey he has endured living with NF2 over the years. Supported every step of the way by his amazing parents Sue and Matt and of course the rest of the family, it's unthinkable that despite having already undergone major neuro surgery 3 times he recently had to endure the grueling surgery for a 4th time at the Royal Salford. All this and he is only 28 years old!
Following his latest surgery, even though he spent many days in intensive care Emyr’s general physical health and post operation recovery was good but the big concern for Em and his family was the loss of his eyesight which still hasn’t returned 3 weeks on. Also, some further complications including a leak on his brain and contracting meningitis have meant that he has had to extend his stay at the Royal Salford for much longer than what was initially anticipated. Of course, in true warrior fashion and with Sue and Matt by his hospital bedside, Em continues to fight hard against everything that is being thrown at him and recently came back home where he continues to recover! A true inspiration and it comes as no surprise to all those who know Em!
The money that we raised for Em will go towards some of the life changes he will have to adapt to.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that made this day\night happen, that is all those who donated and those who joined in the quiz. Congratulations to the joint quiz winners as pictured below.
Cefn Albion chairman Stewart Roberts praised the efforts of all those involved and the community spirit behind the club. He said "I would just like to say a massive thanks to Haydn/Nick on the day- and Spud/Kev for doing all their usual fundraising activities. A big thank you to the fantastic CMSC for hosting the event in a secure and orderly manner and obviously the whole Cefn Albion Family from the committee/ Management/ Players and our brilliant supporters for another remarkable effort. A substantial amount of money has been raised for two very worthy local causes."
We really do have an amazing community that supports this club! We can thank you all enough.
