A large crowd turned up to the Muga to witness a team full of local icons assembled by Kev Griff run a youthful Cefn Albion XI close.
The young Albion team controlled large parts of the game but struggled to break down a stubborn legends defence with ex Cefn player James Jones at the heart of everything (sign him up). However, it was Cefn Albion who took the lead when a Steve Lloyd blunder on the half mark allowed them to break the deadlock. Dion Gibbins with the unstoppable thunderbolt that was just too hot to handle. Just before half time Luke Hughes headed home after lovely move by the young lads. HT 2-0.
Whether it was the dubious referee decisions or the extra player that were sneaked on, second half saw the legends come into the game more. They were finally awarded an opportunity for their hard work when Sean Jones was brought down for a stone wall penalty. The big man picked himself up to take the spot kick but Nick ‘Bones’ Jones pulled off the save of the match to tip the ball round his left post. Chances went begging for the legends but they finally broke the deadlock when Steve Lloyd finished coolly inside a crowded penalty area making up for his earlier blunder. The legends pushed for an equaliser but run out of steam towards the end. Final score 2-1 to Cefn Albion.
Once again we would like to thank everyone who was involved for both teams, the referee (Muncher) and every single person who come to support the game.
See you all in the legion at 1:30pm for the race afternoon. I think a few cold beers are deserved!!
