Nathan Williams announced as the new club captain
The football club is delighted to announce that as of 2019/20 season, 23-year-old Nathan Williams (sponsored by Paul Vaughan) has been named as the new club captain of Cefn Albion. Nathan succeeds the ever present 34-year-old Paul Muncher Griffiths (sponsored by Haydn Evans) who has made the difficult decision to step down to spend more time with his young family. Despite Muncher's decision he has registered via comet and will continue to help out on the field when required to do so, he remains a big part of the football club especially behind the scenes.

Nathan, who been at the football club since it formed in 2015, is someone who despite his young age leads by example - through his actions and attitude. He is a committed individual and the management believe that he has all the right attributes to lead the both the older and younger lads we have at the football club.

Since bursting on to the local scene as a 16-year-old Nathan quickly demonstrated a natural ability to lead and take charge on the pitch. This was quickly recognised by his managers and we soon started witnessing 'the twin' frequently wearing the armband and filling in as skipper when called upon. With his natural leadership qualities many predicted that Nathan would be an ideal future captain and that time has now deservedly come.

We caught up with first team manger Sean Jones (sponsored by Nath Wilcox of Heat Service Ltd) to find out his thoughts on his newly named skipper. Here’s what he had to say

“I’m delighted to announce that Nathan Williams will become the new club captain. For myself it’s an honour to be captain of any team and I’m extremely confident that Nathan has all the attributes to become a huge success in this role.

Following Muncher's decision to step down at the end of last season I’m sure we can all appreciate that there are some massive boots to fill but having played alongside munch since breaking through at 16 years old I’m sure Nath would of been picking up on things and there aren’t many better to learn from in the area.

Going forwards we have one of the youngest teams in the league and the likes of Nath his brother Alex Williams (sponsored by Kev Griff\ Spud Roberts of Cefn Aerials), and Nic Jones (sponsored by Paul Conlan) will be relied upon to give the younger lads the direction that they need out on the pitch.

We also asked Nathan how he felt about being given the responsibility of being Cefn Albion club captain, here is what he had to say

“I'm delighted to be named captain of Cefn Albion, it’s been a goal of mine for many years and upon finding out from Micro that I had been given the captaincy I was over the moon!! I know I've got big boots to fill but I will do everything I can to lead the young squad of players and help the team reach its true potential. Hopefully we get to lift a few trophies on the way, with the talent we have in the dressing rooms there’s no reason why we can’t. I would like to thank the management for showing faith in me, ill be working hard to return the favour”

Finally, we asked our former club captain Paul Griffiths on what he thought about his successor, here is what munch had to say

“When a fresh faced sixteen-year Nathan William first played alongside me at FC Cefn he had the audacity to constructively bollock me after making a silly mistake at the back I knew from that very moment that he was going to be a leader. Without doubt one of the best players I’ve played alongside and he is still only 23! Reads and understands the game extremely well and thoroughly deserves this opportunity to captain a quality group of lads. Nath strives on doing things right which is why I believe the management have made the correct decision. People keep saying that he has big boots to fill but in my opinion all Nathan has to keep doing is what he has done since he broke on to the scene, the rest will take care of itself. Good luck pal a great choice that has my backing!”

We are proud to have Nathan as Club Captain for Cefn Albion Football Club both on and off the pitch. We know he will relish and thrive on the responsibility for many years to come. Good luck!
