On 28th July the FAW announced a new brand identity and title sponsors for tier 3 of the men’s domestic game. Sixty-four clubs from across the country make up the regional divisions, under a new identity of the Ardal Leagues. Cefn Albion were identified as one of the 64 clubs and we found ourselves being placed in the Ardal Nothern East division.
Today the FAW further announced the make up of the new reserves league and it’s an exciting but challenging line up of clubs for new reserve team mangers Phil Bathers and Kevin Edwards to prepare their players for. As we are now a tier 3 football club it means that our reserves will compete against other tier 3 club and above (T2 & T1). There is a really mix bag with many local derbies to look forward to and some fixtures against reserve teams from clubs competing in Wales’ top two tiers namely the current welsh champions Connahs Quay, TNS and our good friends Cefn Druids.
The full line up is as follows:
The lads are used to competing in a reserves and colts league so this year will be a big step up but we believe in our youngsters and will give them all the support they need to give it a very good go.
We spoke to reserve team manager Phil Bathers to get his thoughts
“It’s a tough and exciting new reserve league but one which we’ll plan and give it our best go at ..it’s great to see the FAW raise the bar on all levels of welsh football , these new league structures will not only help our younger players but all young aspiring players at all local clubs to help their development to become a first team player in the future . Exciting times for all clubs in the Wrexham area”
