The football club is delighted to announce that Sean Jones has been appointed as the new first team manager of Cefn Albion. Within the football club Micro’s appointment has been common knowledge for some time and following Stephen Davies’ decision to step down due to work commitments, he was the perfect candidate to step in and take the reins. Given that preseason is a disruptive time of the season we chose not to announce Wacky’s difficult decision to leave beforehand in order not to further disrupt what had been a carefully well-planned schedule to get the lads ready. For the record, we want to make it abundantly clear that the decision to appoint Sean was an easy one and as soon as we had definitive confirmation from Wacky, he was unanimously voted in with full confidence!
Sean has been at the football club since it was formed in 2014 so he fully understands and appreciates the high standards and ethos that is expected by those involved at the Albion. For the past few seasons, since Sean took a step back from the playing side of things and he has assisted wacky with the first team which has given him the perfect platform to learn. He has keenly taken the opportunity with both hands and in a short space of time gained full respect and confidence from the players, which is vital to ensure we continue to challenge for honours.
Since stepping the other side of the white line Micro has shown real qualities especially from a tactical perspective and the way things are run and organised, training has improved immensely since his involvement too. Sean has brought fresh new ideas to the table and alongside our new impressive assistant manager Ian Andrews (who has coaching badges) and first team coach Stephen Lloyd Jones we believe that we have a strong management team heading into the new season, a group of individuals who have a similar traits. There are immediate plans for Sean to undertake his coaching badges which he has agreed to do. We spoke to Sean about his new role and this is what he had to say
“I’m delighted to be given the chance to manage a well-established club like the ‘Albion!
When the club formed in 2014, I signed for the Albion as a player helping the team rise through the divisions winning many cups along the way. Following this, in 2016 I stepped in as assistant manager and helped the team win the welsh national league premier division twice and the FAW Trophy. Fast forward just five years and I now find myself as the first team manager, it’s been some journey to say the least!
If I’m honest, in getting the role I would rather the circumstances to be different, but it is what it is and I can’t wait to get the new season underway and put all the hard work over preseason into practice, hopefully we can see some good performances.
I’ve been impressed with the response from the lads, they have shown great commitment to myself, Andrews and Lloydy during preseason which has been really encouraging. Most of last seasons players have all re-signed which is fantastic news, they understand what the club is all about and the togetherness and community feel we try to build at the club! We have brought in a few new lads and there will be opportunities for many of last seasons reserve players who I am confident will do very well. We have a good blend whilst keeping that strong local factor.
I would like to thank Haydn, Deano and all the committee lads for all their support since I accepted the role, here’s hoping to another trophy this season!!”
It goes without saying that we wish Sean, Ian and Stephen all the best in their roles at CAFC and that we will support them 100% as we move forward together. Lastly, we would like to say a big thank you to Wacky for all his efforts over the years and the successes that he has contributed to, we have no doubt that he will continue to be involved in some way when work allows him to be.
