Cefn Albion Football Club is delighted to announce the return of Sean 'Micro' Jones as the interim First Team Manager, effective immediately. Sean, who previously managed the club from 2019 to 2022, is no stranger to the Cefn Albion family having been involved since its inception, and we are excited to have him back at the helm.
Following the recent announcement of Neil's departure, the club received substantial interest in the vacant managerial position without actively advertising it. However, during a committee meeting earlier this week to deliberate on the best way forward, it became clear that Sean was the unanimous choice to step into the role on an interim basis with a view to extending it. The committee is confident that Sean's track record, intimate knowledge of the club, and past successes make him an excellent fit for a seamless transition back into the managerial position. Micro will continue to be assisted by Ian Andrews who continues to remain an important part of the team.
On his decision to step back in Sean said, “Firstly I would like to extend my appreciation to Ashy for his efforts at the club over the past six months. While things haven't unfolded as we had hoped, I genuinely wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
On a personal note, I am delighted to step back into the role as the first-team manager at the Albion. Despite feeling like I've never truly been away, the decision to step up when asked was a straightforward one for me. I have a good understanding of the current players and recognise the immense potential within our group, it’s my goal to try and bring out the best in them.
I feel we are in a promising position in the Ardal Northern East League and remain in two cup competitions, that said I am optimistic that the next 6/7 months can be a positive period for us.”
Background
In the 2021/2022 season, Micro and his coaching staff navigated the team through the inaugural Ardal Northern East league competition, finishing a creditable 3rd in the league. The teams’ attractive style of football and impressive goal-scoring record contributed to a memorable season that included notable cup runs, including a trip down to Swansea in the FAW Trophy quarterfinal. Throughout his tenure, Micro showcased tactical prowess that not only encouraged fearlessness but also made Cefn Albion an exciting and difficult team for opponents to contend with. On the playing side he encouraged a real togetherness throughout.
Unfortunately, Sean decided to step down as the first team manager following the completion of the 2021/2022 Ardal Northern East season due to personal commitments as a shift worker and his responsibilities to his new young family.
Getting behind Micro, Andrews & the Team
Our chair Stewart Roberts said "First and foremost, I would like to place on record my thanks to Neil for his efforts during his brief tenure at the Club. Unfortunately, circumstances led to the decision that it was best for Neil and Cefn Albion to part ways.
With Sean returning to the Manager's position, we gain someone who not only has experience and a good understanding of the league, but a person who is already familiar with our current players, and those in the surrounding areas. Sean boasts excellent relationships both within the Club and the broader community, earning him the full support of the Committee. Additionally, Ian will be alongside Sean as we work towards stabilizing things.
Ultimately, it is now imperative for the current players at the Club to step up, take responsibility, and demonstrate to the supporters what it truly means to play for Cefn Albion. Some changes may be necessary, and we are prepared to address any challenges that may arise."
With Sean's past track record and close ties to the club, we are confident that he will infuse renewed energy and leadership into the team. We trust that our valued supporters understand the committee's decisions and offer their support for this appointment.
We hope to see more supporters rallying behind the team in upcoming weeks, as we embark on this new chapter under Micro. Hopefully, we can collectively make a positive difference. Good luck to the team tomorrow at Llanrhaeadr.
